Jason Christopher Pound, 45, of Pendleton, a former Haines resident, died June 21, 2009, at St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton. There will be no service. He was born on April 11, 1964, at San Gabriel, Calif., to John F. and Beverly Thames Pound. He attended school at Oregon City. After moving to Haines in 1978, he went to work at the Circle H Restaurant with his mother and stepfather. He then moved to California and worked construction with his dad. F. L. Pound. Merchant, Ionia, was born in Wayne County, N. Y., May 15, 1844. Removed to La Salle County, Ill., in 1860. Enlisted in Company G, One Hundred and Fourth Illinois Volunteer Infantry in August, 1862; was discharged in June, 1865, when he returned to Odell, Ill. He came to Jewell County, Kan, in 1870, and took a homestead nine miles from Mankato. Is now doing business in Ionia, in same county in a room 34×50 feet, two stories high, built in 1882. History of Minneapolis and Hennepin County, Minnesota

The aim of this history was to present in a permanent form the key incidents in the history of Minneapolis, from its earliest settlement to its publication in 1895. The primary facts and events recounted were mostly obtained from living witnesses and participants. It was rare for a city with more than two hundred thousand inhabitants to have so many of its first settlers still alive. The city’s growth had been so extraordinary and unprecedented that many of its earliest settlers remained. Some information was also gleaned from the notes left by now-deceased writers who witnessed the events described. Great care was taken to verify the accuracy of all facts and incidents mentioned. While it might have been too much to hope that the work was entirely free from errors, it was confidently believed that any such errors were few and insignificant.
