Alexander McCrary was born in Ross County, Ohio, in 1825, son of Alexander and Mary (Summers) McCrary. His father was a native of South Carolina and his mother of Kentucky. Mr. McCrary spent his youth upon a farm, receiving such an education as the common schools afforded and was early inured to the hard labor of pioneer farming. Charles L. McCrary was born in Daviess County, Missouri, January 23, 1844. He is the son of Ephraim McCrary, who was born in North Carolina, March 1, 1820, and came to Daviess County in youth, where he died October 30, 1861. Charles’s mother, whose maiden name was Rebecca Linville, was born in Ray County, Missouri, in May, 1825, and is now living with our subject. His parents, John and Mary (Kellar) McCrary, natives of North Carolina and South Carolina respectively, moved to Hancock County in 1844. Next they moved to Wash vine, Iowa, and in 1846 to Council Bluffs, where they remained five years.
