Biography of George W. Hupp

George W. Hupp, born December 3, 1834, in Virginia, had a notable career as a merchant in Elwood, Indiana. He began his trade as a tinsmith before establishing a successful hardware business, contributing to the town’s growth following the natural gas boom. Hupp retired after a productive career, during which he accumulated significant property. He was active in local governance and the Methodist Church, having served as one of Elwood’s first councilmen. Hupp married Isabel Stokes, and they had eight children.
