William Wallace Hunter has been a lifelong resident of Raymond Township. He was born on the old family homestead October 4, 1862, his parents being William and Andica (Boyd) Hunter, who are mentioned above. MELVILLE C. HUNTER, Trenton, Ky., is a native of Robinson County, Tenn., where he was born July 9, 1838, and removed to Todd County, Ky., in 1848, and has since retained his residence here. He is the son of Matthew and Elizabeth (Moody) Hunter; the former died in 1848, and the latter in 1849, in Montgomery County, Tenn. JOHN HUNTER: Senator, b. in S. Carolina about 1760. He received an academic education, engaged in agriculture, and in 1792 was elected to Congress serving till 1795. He was elected United States Senator from South Carolina in 1796 in place of Pierce Butler who had resigned and served from February 1797 till 1798, when he resigned.
JOHN WARD HUNTER: Congressman, b. in Brooklyn, N.Y., 15 October 1807. He was educated in the common schools of Brooklyn, engaged in business there in 1836-65, was assistant auditor in the custom house. In 1866 was elected as a Republican to fill out the unexpired term of Joseph Humphrey, dec., serving from December, 1866 till March, 1867. He was Mayor of Brooklyn in 1875-76.
WILLIAM HUNTER: of Boston, married first in 1657, Cicely . She probably died soon afterward. His second wife was Mary, only child of Richard Carter. By her he had children. Savage, in his “Genealogical Dictionary,” says that the four young passengers of the ship Blessing, the record of whose sailing appears above, may have been children of this William, sent to join him in New England.

ANDREW HUNTER: D.D. (1743-1809), professor of Divinity at Edinburgh, born in Edinburgh in 1743, was the eldest son of Andrew Hunter of Park, writer to the signet, of the Abbotshill branch of the Hunters of Hunterston, Ayrshire. His mother was Grizel, daughter of General Maxwell of Cardoness in the stewartry of Kirkcudbright. After an education at a private school in Edinburgh, he passed to the University, where he completed the final course of study in arts and divinity. JOHN HUNTER: LL.D. (1745-1837), classical scholar was born in the autumn of 1745 at Closeburn, Dumfriesshire, his father, it is said, being a farmer there. Although left an orphan in boyhood, he received a good elementary education before entering Edinburgh University, where he was a distinguished student, although supporting himself largely by private teaching.
