Biography of George M. Hemiup

George M. Hemiup, born on November 22, 1822, in Penn Yan, New York, worked in his uncle’s extensive mercantile business in Geneva after moving there at eighteen. He managed the business until his retirement in 1886. He was devoted to literature and his family, actively participating in the Universalist church. He married Maria Remington in 1851 and had two daughters. Hemiup passed away on July 14, 1886. His wife, Maria, made significant contributions to science and writing, completing multiple publications throughout her life.
