Harshbarger, C. M. County Clerk, first came to Russell in the fall of 1870. He engaged in farming which occupation he still follows. He owns one-half section of land, raises stock and cultivates about 110 acres of his farm, was elected County Clerk in 1873, and by re-election has held that office ever since, excepting from 1878 to 1880, (one term.) H.C. Harshbarger, dealer in groceries, was born in Spencer County, Ind., in 1840; removed with parents to Mahaska County, Ia., in 1848, and to Harrison County in 1856, locating near present town of Woodbine. In 1861 he enlisted in Co. I, Neb. Inft. was in several prominent battles, and in 1865 was discharged and returned to Harrison County. Harry R. Harshbarger of Sedan had found varied employment for his energies since he reached manhood, but is now chiefly engaged in the business of oil production, and had some of the most valuable properties of that kind in Chautauqua County. He was born at Vermilion, Edgar County, Illinois, May 28, 1868. His father was John W. Harshbarger, long and favorably known in Kansas.
