Goodnough, Effie P. – Obituary

Effie Pearl Goodnough, 94, of La Grande, died Thursday afternoon at the La Grande Nursing Center. Mrs. Goodnough was born Feb. 16, 1894, on a farm near Cove to Jabe and Alma (Brown) Conley. On May 10, 1922, she married Raymond Goodnough. He died on Sept. 19, 1948. She was a graduate of Cove High School and lived all her life near Cove or Island City and in La Grande. Following the death of her husband, she worked for many years at Fitzgerald’s Flowers in La Grande. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends and liked the outdoors, especially fishing. … Read more

Goodnough, who passed away at noon yesterday at his home at 801 B avenue are to be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Snodgrass and Zimmerman mortuary. Mrs. Goodnough was born in Richardson County, Nebraska, Dec 21, 1860, and crossed the plains in 1862 with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Bay. Bessie M. Walnum, 87, Island City, died Tuesday at a local hospital. Mrs. Walnum was born on Jan. 24, 1884 at Island City, the daughter of Charles and Mary Goodnough. She graduated from La Grande High School and attended Weston Normal School. On June 8, 1908, she was married to James Walnum at La Grande.
