Goodnough, 57 , 905 Spring, a resident of La Grande all his life and an active club-man in this city, died unexpectedly of a heart attack Sunday at the La Grande Elks club. Bessie M. Walnum, 87, Island City, died Tuesday at a local hospital. Mrs. Walnum was born on Jan. 24, 1884 at Island City, the daughter of Charles and Mary Goodnough. She graduated from La Grande High School and attended Weston Normal School. On June 8, 1908, she was married to James Walnum at La Grande. She was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church of La Grande and was an avid gardener. Survivors include her sons, Charles G. Pioneer Matron Of Grande Ronde Valley Succumbs Mrs. Mary E. Goodnough, 84 died Saturday evening in the Island City home of her daughter, Mrs. James Y. Walnum. Mrs. Goodnough was born in Richardson County, Nebraska, Dec 21, 1860, and crossed the plains in 1862 with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Bay. Effie Pearl Goodnough, 94, of La Grande, died Thursday afternoon at the La Grande Nursing Center. Mrs. Goodnough was born Feb. 16, 1894, on a farm near Cove to Jabe and Alma (Brown) Conley. On May 10, 1922, she married Raymond Goodnough. He died on Sept. 19, 1948. She was a graduate of Cove High School and lived all her life near Cove or Island City and in La Grande.
