Biography of George Fordon

William Fordon, born in England in 1757, was a farmer who married Sarah Dunslee in 1792. Their son, George Fordon, born in 1803 near Whitby, emigrated to the United States in 1831, believing it offered better opportunities. He traveled the Midwest before settling on a tract near Geneva, New York. A pioneer in under drainage techniques, George initially faced skepticism but later proved successful. He married Hannah Stephenson in 1822, and they had several children, becoming active members of the Episcopalian church.

Biographical Sketch of William Fordon

William Fordon, born on April 15, 1824, near Hull, England, was the eldest son of George and Hannah Fordon. A successful farmer, he upheld modern agricultural practices and actively participated in the Episcopalian church and Republican politics. He married Honor Matilda Durrant in Geneva, New York, on December 21, 1848. Honor, born on September 17, 1831, was the daughter of Isaac and Amelia Durrant. Together, they had three children: George Frederick, Fanny, and Mary. William passed away on April 29, 1911.

Biography of George Frederick Fordon

George Frederick Fordon, born January 11, 1850, in Seneca, New York, is a prominent farmer and fruit grower in Geneva, continuing a family tradition of agricultural excellence. Educated locally, he taught school while managing his family’s farm. In 1876, he launched his own farming venture, blending traditional practices with modern techniques, achieving notable success and a reputation beyond the local community. Married to Caroline Elizabeth Tills, he has several accomplished children, and remains engaged in his community as a Republican supporter and church member.
