Doncaster

Hiram Doncaster, born in Nova Scotia in 1838, arrived on the West Coast in 1856. Initially mining, he transitioned to shipbuilding, gaining prominence for crafting a range of vessels. His notable constructions include the steamer Enterprise and the barkentine Retriever. Doncaster worked extensively in San Francisco and later settled in Tacoma, where he continued to build significant ships, including the steam tug Tyee. His contributions to shipbuilding earned him respect, establishing him as a distinguished figure in the industry.
