Albertson, Allie – Obituary

Enterprise, Oregon Allie Albertson, 103, of Salem, and a former La Grande resident, died July 7, 2001, at a Salem care center. Her graveside funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Island City Cemetery. The Rev. Mark Schlessman of the La Grande First Christian Church will officiate. Mrs. Albertson was born Feb. 19, 1898, at Boreing, Ky. She was one of nine children born to John D. ?JD? and Marian (Hammack) Broughton Sr. The family moved to Wallowa County, and she was educated in Enterprise. Compiled military service records for 1,235 Rough Riders, including Teddy Roosevelt have been digitized. The records include individual jackets which give the name, organization, and rank of each soldier. They contain cards on which information from original records relating to the military service of the individual has been copied. Included in the main jacket are carded medical records, other documents which give personal information, and the description of the record from which the information was obtained.

SOULE (New Bedford family). The family bearing this name at New Bedford, Mass., is a branch of the Old Plymouth family, descending from George Soule, one of the “Mayflower” Pilgrims and a signer of the compact in 1620. The present head of the family is the Hon. Rufus Albertson Soule, citizen soldier, now collector of the port of New Bedford, who for many years has been a conspicuous figure in the business and political life of that place, a public servant of high and honorable service, one who as man, citizen and neighbor enjoys that popularity that comes to but few.
