JAMES CATE was b. in Greenland in 1747, m. first, -, Hannah Ayers (?), who was b. in 1746, and d. in Cornish April, 1780, aged 34; m. second, Hannah Huggins, dau. of John and Hannah Ayers Huggins, b. in 1757, and d. in Cornish Aug. 22, 1788, aged 31. He was a Revolutionary soldier. He d. in town Nov. 19, 1802, aged 55. They lived in the north west part of the town. Children, both by first wife: 1. JAMES, JR., b. Sept. 7, 1775. 2. LEVI, b. -, 1777; d. Feb. 12, 1835.

Joseph Carter

JOSEPH CARTER was b. in Little Harbor Oct. 18, 1776. His mother’s name was Sarah Williams, who after the death of Mr. Carter, m. William Lucy and had by him seven children. (See Lucy.) In 1672 Nathaniel1 and Mary Carroll were residents of Norfolk Co., Mass. Their son, Nathaniel2, had a son, Samuel3, who had a son, Joseph4, b. in Sutton, Mass., in 1732, who m. Nov. 21, 1761, Judith Chase of Sutton, a dau. of Philip and Mary (Follansbe) Chase. Nine children. Josephs, their eldest son, b. Dec. 10, 1763, m. April 6, 1788, Mary Prince, b. Aug. 7, 1763.
