Lelia M. Stoop, 95, of La Grande died Nov. 24 at Evergreen Vista Health Center in La Grande. At her request, there will be no service; she will be buried beside her husband at the La Grande Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 Seventh St., La Grande.
Mrs. Stoop was born Oct. 25, 1911, to Bill and Alta Winburn in La Grande. The second of four girls, she grew up in La Grande and graduated from La Grande High School.
In 1933 she married Carl R. Stoop. Lelia had a long career as an accountant with Pacific Fruit and Produce in La Grande and then in Pendleton. She and Carl moved to North Bend, where she worked at St. Catherine’s Nursing Home until she retired.
In 2003, Lelia returned to La Grande to live at Wildflower Lodge. She moved to Evergreen Vista in 2005.
Lelia loved her family. She didn’t have children of her own and was especially close to her nieces and nephews.
Survivors include her nieces and nephews, LaVerta Kelley of Sammamish, Wash., Jeanne Hale of Everett, Wash., Barbara Frisbie of Dunsmuir, Calif., Orville Miller of La Grande and Vern Miller of Tulsa, Okla.; and numerous cousins and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and her three sisters, Lawanna Miller of La Grande, Florence King of Redding, Calif., and Velma Benham of Redmond, Wash.
