Henry Schaeffer passed away Sunday at his home in Wallowa after an illness that had developed into serious nature only two weeks earlier. He had been in poor health, however, for a much longer time and for a year had used a crutch and cane to get about. His physicians gave bright’s disease as the cause of death.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the home and burial was in the Wallowa cemetery.
For all time, Mr. Schaeffer will occupy an unique position in this history of Wallowa county as he and his wife were married at the first wedding ceremony ever held in the county, November 4, 1873(?).
