Helen Louise Brown, 86, of La Grande died Oct. 29, 2004 at a local care center in La Grande. Loveland Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Brown was born Feb. 11, 1918, to Jack W. and Mabel Clara Vest Emerson in Wallowa.
She is the descendent of early pioneer family of Wallowa County, William Harvey Vest and Ellen Mollissia Cole. She attended elementary school in Baker for a year and graduated from La Grande High School with the class of 1936.
She married Harold Edgar Brown May 26, 1936, in Walla Walla, Wash.
She worked in the lab at St. Joseph Hospital and at the La Grande Clinic from 1960 to 1977, when she retired. She moved to Alaska to spend time with her sister for a short time where she worked at a dress shop.
She went to Las Vegas and Milton Freewater before returning to La Grande. She enjoyed crocheting Afghans and spending time with her family.
Survivors include a son, Robert H. Brown of Echo; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and three great-great grand children. Granddaughter-in-law and caretaker Pamela Counsel, cousins Velma Hescock, Clarence Trump, William Trump and Gerald Trump and other relative’s.
She is preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Margaret V. Bolton and Edith Martin, and a brother in law, Carrol R. Bolton.
Gravesite services were held Nov. 1, at the Island City Cemetery with Mark Schlessman of the First Christian Church in La Grande officiating.

Graveside services were held on. Monday, November 1, 2004 at the Island City Cemetery with Mark Schlessman of the First Christian Church in La Grande officiating. Loveland Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Her husband died July 11, 1977; two sisters, Margaret V. Bolton and Edith Martin, and a brother-in-law, Carrol R. Bolton, all died earlier.
