Mrs. See Buried
Pioneer Woman Laid to Rest at Summerville Yesterday
Yesterday, the body of Mrs. Ben See was laid to rest in the Summerville Cemetery. Mrs. See was one of the pioneer women of this valley, coming here in the fall of 1865 from Missouri, shortly after her marriage. On the 22nd of December she would have been 71 years of age.
She is the mother of eight children, seven of whom are living to mourn her demise. The funeral was from the home of her daughter, Mrs. Perry Auther of May Park. Many relatives and friends of the aged woman were in La Grande from out of town points to attend the last rites.
Mr. and Mrs. Bert Caudle and Mrs. J.B. Cook of Lostine, were in La Grande to attend the funeral of the mother and mother-in-law Mrs. See.
Mr. See, the aged husband of the deceased, went to Lostine for a few days to be with his children.
D. M. Hammack of Wallowa, was also in the city for the same purpose, returning this morning.
