Biography of Josiah C. Trask

Josiah C. Trask was one of the 180 victims of the terrible Quantrill raid and massacre at Lawrence, on August 21, 1863. He was a young and brilliant editor at the time of his death and few men of Kansas were more beloved. His father was a minister, who preached in Massachnsetts for many years, and he himself was born at Warren, that state, May 9, 1837. He knows the business in every detail, both on the technical and manufacturing side, and also selling end. Mr. Van Doren is now superintendent of the Great Western Portland Cement Company’s plant at Mildred, Kansas. A native of Michigan, he was born at Adrian July 22, 1874. Mrs. Iantha Duluska Bay, 99, 2107 3rd Street, died at a local hospital Thursday, November 28, following an extended illness. Mrs. Bay was born December 17, 1868, in Yankton, South Dakota, the daughter of early day pioneers to this valley. She had resided in this area for over 90 years, and was a member of the Christian Church. Survivors of Mrs. Bay include: two sons, Guy of Hilgard and Ira of La Grande; two daughters, Mrs. Eva Vandermulen of La Grande, and Mrs. Ella Kolb of Portland; also nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. C. B. McVay is secretary and treasurer of the Western States Portland Cement Company of Independence. He has been identified with the manufacture and sale of cement for over fifteen years, that having been the chief work of his life. He was born in Yankton, South Dakota, in 1878. His ancestors, the McVays, were Scotch people who settled in Pennsylvania more than a century ago. The father, William H.
