(Mode) Cooke, 88, in the Kittitas valley’s oldest pioneer in point of years and the last remaining member of one of the Northwest’s pioneer families. Nell M. Stuth, 82, of Olympia died Saturday, Jan. 5, 1985, in an Olympia convalescent center. She was born July 1, 1902 in Ellensburg and lived in Seattle and Yakima before moving to Olympia in the 1930s. She was married in 1940 to Albert E. “Stubb” Stuth in Olympia. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Stuth worked for Miller’s Department Store and was a member of First Christian Church. Survivors include two sisters, Anna Nichols, Port Orchard and Lottie Dale, Portland, Ore. Toppenish residents were shocked to learn early this week of the death of Sheriff Lew Evans. Mr. Evans who lived on a ranch near Buena was for a number of years a community leader in Toppenish. Death came to the popular county official in St. Elizabeth Hospital where he was taken after he had suffered a heart attack at his home one hour before.
