Elvin Willard Allen died Jan. 30, 1996, at the home of his great-niece, Julie Wetzel. He was 93 years of age. He was born Feb 28, 1903 in Wallowa, the second son of Jess and Daisy Allen of Middle Valley. He lived on the family farm until the 1930’s when he moved to Newport. He was a carpenter by trade and he served in World War II where he helped with building projects on various islands after they were bombed. Wallowa, Oregon George Willliams George Williams, the man who was scalded to death by the boiler explosion on the Knapp thresher outfit near Wallowa, resided in Enterprise several months. Wallowa, Oregon Saturday evening Mr. and Mrs. B. E. Southwick of Promise received word that their son, Arthur, who was a Corporal in Company A, 14th Infantry was seriously ill with pneumonia. They immediately left for Fort Dodge near Des Moines where he was stationed. Monday word came that he had died of pneumonia following an attack of Spanish Influenza. Wallowa, Oregon Frances Elaine Breshears Babb, 96, of Eugene, died April 4, 2004. She was born April 8, 1907, in Elgin to William and Margaret (Eckley) Breshears. Mrs. Babb grew up in the Wallowa, Vincent and Rondowea areas and graduated from Lostine High School. She worked for M. Crow and Company in Lostine for a time.
