Walter Edward Givens, 82, of 215 Oak died in a local hospital Monday [July 31, 1972], he was a retired grocery man. Givens was born June 24, 1890, in Galax, Va. In 1917 he married Amy A. Kent in Walla Walla; they lived here many years and moved back to make their home in 1967. Givens was a veteran of WWI and a member of the Marcus Whitman Barracks No. 135, Veterans of WWI. Almost forty years have passed since John M. Silcott took up his residence in Idaho, and he is therefore one of the oldest and most widely known pioneers of the state. He came in the spring of 1860 to establish the government Indian agency at Lapwai, and has since been identified with the growth and development of this section. He is a Virginian, his birth having occurred in Loudoun County, of the Old Dominion, January 14, 1824. William M. Lee, who came to Whitman County in 1872 from Walla Walla, died at his home in this city Tuesday evening [June 16, 1925], surrounded by his wife and four surviving children. He suffered an attack of pneumonia about two weeks ago and due to his advanced age of 77 years the after effects proved fatal. Mrs. T. H. Fagan/Fagin Mrs. Billie Fagin, Joseph Fagin, and Mrs. Ivan Vance went to Wallowa, Friday called by the death of a relative, Mrs. T.H. Fagan, who was a pioneer resident of the Leap country. Mrs. Fagan died in a hospital at Walla Walla and was fifty seven years of age. Mrs. Fannie Dailey returned to her home at Freewater, Wednesday.
