Biography of William Dozier
William Dozier, born in 1836 in Ohio, became a prominent architect and builder in Mattoon after moving to Illinois in 1858. He took on significant family responsibilities following his father’s untimely death and began his career in education and carpentry. After various relocations, including a stint in Terre Haute, he returned to Mattoon, where he constructed several residences. Dozier also traveled to Europe in 1875, sharing his experiences through articles in local newspapers. He and his wife had two children, with one surviving.
