Biographical Sketch of John Ferrin

JOHN FERRIN married Hannah Jacobs, daughter of Whitman Jacobs, and after devoting several years to farming in Croydon, removed to Morristown, Vt., where he carried on a successful mercantile business, and where he occupied a prominent position in town. He was Representative two years, and an active justice until his death. He was a man of large physical and mental endowments. His eldest son, WHITMAN W., is a distinguished lawyer at Montpelier; and his second son, HARRISON, a worthy farmer, has been a Representative from Morristown.

Biography of John B. Moore

John B. Moore, a prosperous dairy farmer of Plainfield, Sullivan County, N.H., son of Hiram and Ruby (Silloway) Moore, was born in this town, April 9, 1849. His great – grandfather, William Moore, who was a native of County Tyrone, Ireland, emigrated to America early in the eighteenth century, and became one of the first settlers in Pembroke, N.H. DANIEL HASKELL m. Feb. 9, 1779, Elizabeth Putnam of Cornish, dau. of Daniel and Anna (Chase) Putnam, b. July 15, 1762, and had the following children b. in town: 1. CORNELIA, b. Nov. 11, 1779. 2. DANIEL C., b. July 3, 1781. After the birth of these two children, the family probably left town, as all further record of it is lost.

Biography of Henry Tubbs

Henry Tubbs, a successful dentist practising in Newport, was born in Peterboro, N.H., February 24, 1831, son of Joseph and Azuba (Monroe) Tubbs. The family is traced back to one William Tubbs, who came to the Plymouth Colony from London, England, in 1635. The paternal grandfather of Dr. Tubbs was Captain Joseph Tubbs, of Marlow, N.H., an early settler, a successful farmer, a good citizen, and a Captain in the old State militia. Amos Richardson, an influential resident of Cornish, was born here, November 27, 1817, son of Amos and Sophia (Cummings) Richardson. He is a descendant of Dr. Amos Richardson, who was a physician of note in Pelham, N.H. Dr. Amos’s son, Joseph, was grandfather of the subject of this sketch. Biographical Sketch of Urias Powers

URIAS POWERS, son of Urias Powers, was born May 12, 1791; graduated at Dartmouth College in 1818; pursued a theological course at Andover, Mass.; ordained in 1823; and after preaching in South Carolina and Virginia, he became connected by marriage with the family of a wealthy planter and settled at Big Lick, Va. He voluntarily emancipated his slaves. The rebellion dealt harshly with his once large fortune. He was the first native of Croydon who received a collegiate education.
