North Powder, Union County, Oregon Word has been received by Mrs. Emil R. Miller, of the death of her father, S.G. Sanders, of Vallejo, Cal. Samuel Guy Sanders was born in Portland and was a son of the late I.N. Sanders. He was about 56 years old. He grew up at North Powder on the old Sanders ranch. The first effort looking toward the organization of a civil government was made in 1841, at Champoeg, which at the time was the seat of the principal settlement in the Willamette Valley. It originated among the members of the Methodist Mission, and for that reason did not have the cordial support of the independent settlers. Chinaman Killed At La Grande Seu Shen, a Portland Chinaman was shot to death by Chin Mon Bue, in a Chinese lodging house at La Grande Sunday night. The trouble which caused the killing was over a white woman roomer in the house. The woman is said to have come from Portland several days ago.
