Wallowa, Wallowa County, Oregon Local people were grieved to learn through a telegram to Mrs. Mae McGregor, of the death last Wednesday morning, Dec. 5 of J.C. Rooney, merchant of Wallowa and who with his son Norval conducted a meat market and grocery in North Powder until early this fall. He died at Clarkston, Wash., after a protracted illness. Bright’s disease was the direct cause of his death. Mr. Rooney had gone to Clarkston about two months ago to be under the care of physicians there. No funeral arrangements have as yet been announced. North Powder, Oregon Marlin Irvin Ediger died April 21, 2003, from heart failure. At Marlin’s request, there was no service. After cremation, a private burial was performed by his son at North Powder. He was born Jan. 16, 1931, to Martha Stannel and John D. Ediger of Dallas. He married Mildred Louise Ediger, also of Dallas, on Aug. 22, 1952. In 1960, the couple moved to North Powder, where he would spend his life between ranching and mill work. Barbara was born Sept. 30, 1920, in Corvallis, Ore., to Clarence and Hazel Burris. She grew up in North Powder, Ore., where she met her future husband, Howard West. They were married in 1941. While her husband was serving in World War II, Barbara owned and operated a beauty salon in the town of Hermiston, Ore. After the war the couple settled in Eastern Oregon where her daughter was born, followed by son William. Truck Kills Sims, Former Powderite Leonard Sims, 60, who farmed the place now occupied by Ben Biais on Clover Creek, some years ago, died Wednesday from a broken neck suffered when a truck he was operating went over a bank near Elkton on the Reedsport highway last Sunday morning. Sims was taken to the Pacific Christian hospital in Eugene after the accident, and clung to life for two days.
