Biography of John MacBain

John MacBain served as supervisor of the Third Township for seven years, during which he transformed the region’s road infrastructure from graveled lanes to eighty miles of paved and macadam roads, establishing one of the finest road systems in California. Alongside his road work, MacBain contributed to the construction of the county courthouse and served on various committees. A prominent contractor, he built numerous public and private structures across San Mateo County. Born in Nova Scotia in 1849, he settled in Menlo Park in 1878.
