A son of one of the Kittitas Valley’s earliest pioneer families, Abraham David Morrison, died in the Ellensburg General Hospital at 10:30 a.m. today [March 28, 1953], at the age of 69. He had been seriously ill for the past two months and entered the hospital Friday. He was one of seven children of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Morrison, who came to the valley in 1870. Peter Michels, 63, a resident of Ellensburg since 1882, died at his home, 1108 B Street, early this morning [May 19, 1942] after a lingering illness. Born in St. James, Minn., August 8, 1878, he came to Ellensburg 60 years ago with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Martin Michels, valley pioneers. A former minor league baseball pitcher, Kenneth E. Wyatt, died Thursday [February 24, 1977]. He was 51. Mr. Wyatt, of 10108 East F St., was born in Kittitas. He had lived in Tacoma since 1960. Mr. Wyatt held the strike-out record In the Western International League for a few years. He played with the Spokane Indians and Salem Solons in the late 1940s. Mrs. Martha [Etlidge] Smathers, 85, a resident of Ellensburg for the past 50 years, died in Yakima Friday evening [June 20, 1947]. It was learned here today. A native of Nashville, NC, Mrs. Smathers came here from Goldendale before the turn of the century. She is survived by three sons, Ed and Lee Smathers, both of Omak and John Smathers, Ellensburg A granddaughter, Mrs. George Minton of Ellensburg, and six great grandchildren also survive her. General Grant Morrison [General is his name not a miliatry title], 50, a resident of the Kittitas Valley all his life, died Saturday evening [August 27, 1938] after a lingering illness. He was born at Kittitas in 1888 and has made his home here continuously since. He is survived by his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Herb Holland and Mrs. George Marshall; a son, Harry Jim Morrison; and three brothers, Tom, Bill, and Abe Morrison. Churchill, Julia (Nettie) Lester – Obituary

Mrs. Nettie Churchill [w/o Alfred Churchill], mother of Mrs. Chester Cook, died Sunday night [February 16, 1914] at the home of her daughter in the Southeast part of the valley. Mrs. Churchill was 53 years old and had been sick for some time. The funeral was held from the Methodist Church, Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Nathan, pastor of the church conducted the services. Paul, Jean Eliza Schnebly – Obituary

Native Ellensburg resident Jean E. Paul, 95, died Wednesday [November 3, 1982] at Gold Leaf Nursing Home where she had lived for the past seven years. She was born Feb. 14, 1887-a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Schnebly. She attended local schools, Ellensburg Normal School and obtained a registered nursing degree from Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, Ore. She and John H. Paul were married in Ellensburg on Sept. 3, 1912. Stickney, by a little more than a month, Mrs. May Stickney, 70- year-old Kittitas County pioneer, passed away at her home here last night [July 5, 1934] following a lingering illness. Doris Schnebly Clymer, 99, of Issaquah, Washington, died Sunday May 18, 2008 after a short illness. She was born April 3, 1909, in Ellensburg, Washington to Joseph Jay and Elizabeth Barnhart Schnebly. Her early years were spent on the family ranch which was located in the Fairview District, where she attended a one-room schoolhouse.
