Death came to Mrs. George Montgomery, 71-year-old native daughter of Washington and Kittitas Valley pioneer, here Saturday [April 18, 1942] following a lingering illness. Born at Woodinville, WA., July 11, 1870, Mrs. Montgomery had lived in this valley 61 years. She was the daughter of Judge John Davis and Maria Harris Davis and came here with her parents in 1881. She was married here in 1890 to George Montgomery, who died eight years ago. Mrs. Melinda B. Dixon, pioneer of Kittitas Valley, died at Bernath’s Nursing Home early today at the age of 91 years January 13, 1964. Melinda Banister, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel L. Banister, was born Feb. 6, 1872 in Clark County, Washington and came to Ellensburg with her parents in 1870. He was born in Ellensburg, Sept. 22, 1891, a son of Christian and Susan (Zumbrunnen) Indermuhle. He and Hazel Hayes were married in Ellensburg, March 24, 1917. They farmed in Gooding and Meridian, Idaho from 1917 to 1931 when they returned to the Kittitas Valley. Ella Cooke, 96, died Saturday, April 19, 1997 at the Masonic Retirement Center in Des Moines, Wash., where she has been a resident for 9 years. She was born Jan. 1, 1901 in Hawkins County, Tenn. Urban L. Uebelacker, 85, of Ellensburg, died Thursday [September 22, 1988] at Gold Leaf-Washington Health Care Center. He was born in Ellensburg June 23, 1903, a son of Frank and Anna Uebelacker. Following graduation from Ellensburg High School, he attended St. Martin’s College in Olympia. He was employed by Kittitas County as a heavy-duty equipment mechanic for 30 years, and later was employed by the Kittitas School District for 10 years. He retired in 1968. The death of Mrs. Rebecca Jane Hayes, wife of Sanford Hayes, occurred on Sunday morning [May 25, 1913], after a lingering illness. James Harvey Ferguson, 93, member of a pioneer Kittitas Valley family, died Saturday, October 18, 1969 in a Seattle nursing home. He was the son of James Ferguson and Elizabeth McEwen Ferguson, and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. John McEwen. The Ferguson and McEwen families came to the Kittitas Valley in 1871 over the Snoqualmie Pass from the Puget Sound Country. The McEwens bought land in what is now known as the Denmark District. The death of Mrs. Harvey Huss, aged 77 years, occurred Wednesday morning at the home of her son, F. Huss, caused by bronchial pneumonia. Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed. Dorcas was the daughter of William Graham and Catharine Pruitt. She married Elisha Harvey Huss in Missouri on April 3, 1863. Dorcas died February 11, 1925. She was buried in the IOOF Cemetery.
