Biographical Sketch of John W. Burge

Was born in Patrick County, Virginia, September 21, 1838. He is the son of Woody Burge, now living in Daviess. County; his mother died in Virginia in 1836. Our subject was reared principally upon his father’s farm in Virginia. September 10, 1836, he left Virginia for Platte County, Missouri, where he made his home until 1857, at which time he came to Daviess County, where he has been ever since. In 1861 he enlisted in the Confederate army under General Sterling Price, and was in the battles of Carthage, Pea Ridge, Sugar Creek, Pleasant Hill, and finally surrendered at Shreveport. … Read more

Biographical Sketch of Thomas Bradshaw

Was born in Pocahontas County, Virginia, August 31, 1827. His father was Thomas Bradshaw, and his mother’s maiden name was Nancy S. Williams. Thomas Bradshaw, Jr., was reared principally in Pocahontas County. He left his birthplace for Daviess County in 1857, and settled here on a farm with his mother, of whom he had the entire care until her death. Was born in Pocahontas County, West Virginia, March 11, 1843. He is the son of William P. Hill, who married Miss Elizabeth Poage, both natives of Virginia. George W. A native of Virginian, was born in Pendleton County, that State, September 28, 1816. His parents, James and Mary Ann Johnson, were both natives of “Ole Virginy,” and both died there, the former in the year 1845, and the latter in the year 1856. William B., when twenty-one years of age, left the old homestead and journeyed toward the setting sun, and reaching Missouri in 1838, settled in Boone County, where he lived one year. Former Imbler resident Bessie G. Ruckman died May 3 in Oakland, Calif. She was 81. Mrs. Ruckman was born Nov 4, 1903, in Jackson, Mo., to Thomas and Sophronia Kasinger. She and her family moved to Imbler in 1912. She married Virgil Audmer Ruckman of Alicel on June 10, 1922. In 1924, the couple moved to Oakland. Mrs. Ruckman was an employee of the Pacific Telephone Co., until she retired in 1957. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1975.
