Ivia Joan Rucker Adams-Capps died May 22, 2007. She was 74. Mrs. Adams-Capps was born Jan. 24, 1933, near Wallowa at the home of her parents, Elmer L. and Itol E. Rucker. The family moved to Irrigon in 1934. In 1951, she graduated from high school, married Donald L. Adams and began her career with Umatilla Electric Company. She had three sons. She was a charter member of Altrusa International of Hermiston, a 4H leader, a Cub Scout den mother and active in Home Extension and PTA. Flora, Oregon Jeniece E. “Jenny” Cate, 57, died March 12, 2005, at Kadlec Medical Center in Richland, Wash. She was born on Aug. 24, 1947 in Enterprise to Glenn (Blackie) McElroy and Jean Burleigh McElroy. Mrs. Cate grew up in Flora and Irrigon. She graduated in 1965 from Riverside High School and attended Blue Mountain Community College. She enjoyed reading, knitting, science fiction movies and cats. Lostine, Oregon Walt J. Avery Walt J. Avery died July 25, 2004, as the result of cancer. He was born June 29, 1927, in Lostine, to John Henry and Celia Frances (Moore) Avery. Before marrying Joy Frances Bennett of Joseph in 1948, Avery worked on several area ranches. The newlyweds moved to Portland, where Walt worked on farms and in the shipyards. John Howard Harris, 75, of Irrigon died June 15 at his home. At his request there will be no funeral. Burial will be July 2 in the Pioneer Cemetery that was started by his grandfather, Lewis Fisk, in 1882 at the park near Medical Springs. Mr. Harris was born Sept. 17, 1930, to Thomas Howard and Laura Ellen Fisk Harris in Baker City. He worked in the woods, as a mechanic, a heavy-equipment operator and as a truck driver.
