Wallowa, Wallowa County, Oregon Leonard Baker Called Beyond Leonard Baker, who had been a resident of Wallowa county most of the time since 1888, died at La Grande last Wednesday, January 13, 1937. He moved to that city three months ago. His two brothers in Wallowa County did not know he was seriously ill until a short time before he passed away. “Mack” Cook Answers Call George B. McClellen Cook passed away at the Enterprise hospital Feb. 1 after a short illness. “Mack” Cook was born Feb. 27, 1862, near Dallas, Polk County, Oregon to Thomas l. and Harriet Cook who crossed the plains by ox team in 1854. He was one of ten children born to this union. The family resided in Polk County until 1878 when the father and his sons, Jerile, William, Tom (Dick) and N.J. came to Wallowa County and all located homesteads on the South fork of the Wallowa River except N.J. who was too young. Orville Dee Shirley, 79, of La Grande, died June 2, 2006, at St. Elizabeth Health Services. Cremation will take place at Eastern Oregon Pioneer Crematory in Baker City. Burial of the cremated remains will be later at the Enterprise Cemetery. Orville as born on Oct. 21, 1926, at Wallowa to Chet and Lady Clair Mabor Shirley. Enterprise, Oregon Ella Maud “Applegate” Bohnenkamp died March 18, 2006 in Enterprise of natural causes. She was 87 years old. She was was born August 5, 1918 in Barrons, Alberta, Canada to William Price Applegate and Hettie Guendolen “Cole” Applegate. The family returned to Enterprise in 1923, when her parents started a trucking and cold storage business. On Dec. 30, 1939 she married William Bohnenkamp of La Grande. She and her husband moved to Beaverton in 1963 and retired in Mohave Valley, Arizona in 1968.
