Many people attended the last rites for Farrell Hess at Union, Monday, where the body of the young man was taken for burial. Services were held at the L.D.S. church, and the building could not accommodate the crowd that wished to pay its last respects to the young an. All members of the Hess family were present at the funeral ceremonies. After the church services, the Knights of Pythias, held another services at the cemetery, the deceased having been a member of that body. Walls, Susie – Obituary

Mary Susan (Susie) Walls, died at the age of 89, Jan. 3, 1981, at the Woodland Convalescent Center in Woodland, Washington. Born in Bolt, West Virginia, Oct. 22, 1891, she was the daughter of William Thomas and Mary Frances (Cook) Clemens. She came to Wallowa County from West Virginia in 1907, and in 1914 married Russell E. Walls in Wallowa. He died in 1970. Mrs. Walls was a member of the Methodist Church and a housewife who was known for her baking. Funeral services for Grant Kirkendoll, who died yesterday morning at his home on Silver Lake following a long illness, will be held Sunday from the Methodist Church here with burial in the Whittle Cemetery. He was born in Iowa, December 25, 1865, and came to Kelso with his parents when a small child. Wortman Dies Very Suddenly Mrs. John Wortman passed away yesterday afternoon, Wednesday January 5, 1927, at the La Grande hospital where she had been taken for an operation for appendicitis. Daniel E. McEwen, well-known resident of Rose Valley for the last years, who had lived in Kelso since last December passed away quietly at his home at 207 South Sixth Street west Kelso this morning at 6:45 o’clock after a two weeks illness. Durkee, Oregon Dale Robert Carlile, 63, died Jan. 9, 2004, at his home in Durkee. At Dale’s request, there will be no services. Dale was born May 10, 1940, at Kelso, Wash., to Harry Carlile and Frieda Valentine Carlile. He attended school at Kelso/Longview where he loved playing football. After graduating from high school, Dale joined the U.S .Army and attended Ranger school. He was involved in the early years of the Vietnam War. Enterprise, Oregon Herbert Stanley “Bud” Briggs, 90, died at his home in Enterprise on May 31, 2005. He was born in New Meadows, Idaho, on Jan. 16, 1915, to Roy and Maude Briggs. Mr. Briggs came to Wallowa County in 1939. He worked at the mill in Joseph and later as a janitor for Joseph High School.
