Aged Foreman Of Mines Dead Thomas Taggart, for many years foreman of the Baisley mine near Baker some several years ago died Sunday at the home of his son, George W. Taggart at Woodland, Washington, according to a telegram received by relatives in Baker. Mr. Taggart was a native of Illinois. He came to Baker county from the east 45 years ago and lived in the vicinity of Baker until last fall. He was about 72 years of age. Enterprise, Oregon Herbert Stanley “Bud” Briggs, 90, died at his home in Enterprise on May 31, 2005. He was born in New Meadows, Idaho, on Jan. 16, 1915, to Roy and Maude Briggs. Mr. Briggs came to Wallowa County in 1939. He worked at the mill in Joseph and later as a janitor for Joseph High School. In 1940, he married Lucile “Peal.” They were married 63 years when she died in 2003. In 1950, Mr. Briggs went to work for Pacific Power. Funeral services for Grant Kirkendoll, who died yesterday morning at his home on Silver Lake following a long illness, will be held Sunday from the Methodist Church here with burial in the Whittle Cemetery.
