Cleo, “Junior,” as he was affectionately known, was born February 2, 1925 at LaPlata, Missouri. In the spring of the same year he and his family moved to a ranch south of Valentine, Nebraska. He attended country school and then graduated high school in Meadville, Pennsylvania where he lived with his Aunt Alpha Soupos. Three years later, 1946, he earned his degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Missouri Columbia. Frances Lorraine Hans was born March 8, 1922 at Bazile Mills, Nebraska to E. A. and Eunice Hans. She died April 22, 1987 at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at age 65. In 1938, Frances graduated from Valentine High School, then attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. She received her law degree from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and a Doctorate of Law from the University of Iowa.
