Emma Bidwell was born at Fairview, Minnesota, March 18, 1868. She came to Union with her parents in 1884, which has ever since been her home. She chose school teaching for her life’s work and for about 40 years followed this great profession. The earliest accounts of the Chippewa associate them particularly with the region of Sault Sainte Marie, but they came in time to extend over the entire northern shore of Lake Huron and both shores of Lake Superior, besides well into the northern interior and as far west as the Turtle Mountains of North Dakota.

Cove, Oregon Jimmie Duane Kimball Sr Jimmie Duane Kimball Sr., 76, of Cove died Feb. 19 of age-related causes. A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Union LDS Church. Mr. Kimball was born Feb. 17, 1931, to Milo and Bernice Kimball in Backus, Minn. He and his wife, Linda, were married Oct. 10, 1981. He retired as a truck driver in the early 1990s. Survivors include his wife; sons, Jimmie Kimball, Chuck Kimball and Joe Andes; siblings, Jack, Doug, Vernon, Roger, Tom, Joyce, Norma and Carole; and three grandchildren. Cove, Oregon Tina Petersen, 48, of Cove died Sept. 22 at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland of complications of autoimmune inner ear disease and diabetes. The family is holding a gathering of her friends and their companion animals at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Birnie Park in La Grande. Tina was born March 7, 1959, in Park Rapids, Minn., to Jim and Carol Groth.
