Biographical Sketch of J. A. White
J. A. White, born on March 30, 1838, in Carroll County, Ohio, moved to Missouri and then Iowa before settling in Jewell County in 1852. He served in the Thirty-first Iowa Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War from 1862 to 1865. White is a successful farmer in Browns Creek Township, owning 160 acres and raising livestock. He married Nancy E. Ellis in 1858 and has nine children: Basil, Lydia, Willie, Wilton, Thompson, Lucy, Mary, Charles, and Clara.
