Bertha Alice “Babs” Brainard, 91, a longtime resident of Prairie City, passed away at John Day, on Sunday, November 16, 2003. Babs was born May 29, 1912 in Canby, Oregon to Noah Mac and Suzanna Crawford, and was raised in the Madras area. She married Ben Brainard in Fossil, Oregon on July 18, 1929, and with her husband lived most of the time in Grant County. She was quite active in the outdoors with her husband, and in about 1970 became the Justice of the Peace at Prairie City. Hindman, a native of Eagle Valley, graduated from Baler High School. He was a lifetime resident of Baker County and had resided in Baker since 1919. Hindman was a retired merchant. Betty L. Stading, 79, of Baker City, died July 13, 2007, at the Settler’s Park Memory Care Community. Betty was born on July 22, 1927, in Indianapolis to Clarence and Iva Carlisle Walters. Betty worked for Boeing Co. for 35 years as a flight control rigger before retiring in 1989. Betty enjoyed hiking, fishing, and traveling. Mark Alan Nelson, 52, was born Feb. 12, 1954, to Charles and Joyce Nelson, in Seattle, Wash. Mark passed away Nov. 25, 2006, at St. Alphonus Hospital, in Boise Idaho, due to heart failure. Glenn Duncan Dies After Long Illness Former Haines Grain Dealer Passes, Portland Former Haines businessman, Glenn Duncan, who lived at 3925 S.W. Humphrey Blvd., Portland, passed away Sunday morning, May 12, at Good Samaritan Hospital following an extended illness.
