Mrs. Leona E. McGlothlen, 89, of 1004 S. 3rd Ave., Yakima, died Monday [May 26, 1975] in Madison Fountains Convalescent Center. Mrs. McGlothlen was born in Smith Center, Kan. She moved to Yakima when she was 10. She was married to Purdy McGlothlen when she was 19. He died in July 1937. She was the last surviving charter member of the Yakima Seventh Day Adventist Church. Lacy D. Reece of Milton Freewater and a former resident of Enterprise passed away Wednesday, January 22, at the Veterans Administration Hospital at the age of 80. Reece lived at Rt. 3, Milton Freewater. Mr. Reece moved from Clearwater, Kansas, where he was born Sept. 5, 1894, to Oklahoma, and in 1913 he moved to Falls City, Ore. He married Ruth Eaton in Enid, Okla., and the couple then moved to Enterprise. Reece served with the U.S. Army during World War I. He returned to Enterprise after the war and worked as a meat cutter. Promise, Wallowa County, Oregon Promise Pioneer Laid To Rest Death came Friday to another Wallowa county pioneer, Mrs. Bertha Doud Carper, who died in Wallowa Memorial hospital after an illness of five months. August 29 she was stricken with paralysis and never recovered complete consciousness before the end. Julius A. Balter was suddenly stricken by heart disease while cranking his car at a point about one half mile this side of Elgin on Sunday, September 12th. Mr. Balter was alone and was on his way from the Yakima valley to Joseph. He was found shortly after attack and taken to Elgin and given medical attention but lived only about forty minutes.
