Union, Union County, Oregon John R. Blize, a prominent citizen of Union for a number years deputy sheriff of the county, died at his home in Union, Tuesday morning of last week. Mr. Blize had been seriously afflicted for several months and had been in a Portland hospital since last November, until two days before his death. Mr. Hize was a member of the Knights of Pythias and his funeral was conducted by that order. Elgin Recorder Friday February 27, 1903
1933-2007 Charles Emery Blaylock, 74, of Burns, died March 11 at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend. A celebration of life is planned for noon today at the Terrebonne Cemetery. Mr. Blaylock, known as Chuck, was born Feb. 3, 1933, to Martha Alice (Hill) and Cecil Emery Blaylock in Humboldt, Kan. In 1955 Chuck married Judith Nancy Bacon. Chuck lived his life on his own terms. He was a professional rodeo clown, bullfighter and entertainer for 27 years, retiring in 1976. He performed in Union County rodeos in 1967 and 1968. Chuck was also a singer, songwriter and comedian. Cove, Oregon Betty Ann Blaylock, 61, of Salome, Ariz., and formerly of Cove, died suddenly July 18. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Calvary Baptist Church, 707 Main Street, Cove. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. She was born in La Grande at the old Grande Ronde Hospital, May 31, 1945, to Leonard Francis Barnett and Lela Melvina Land. La Grande, Oregon Patricia M. Blang, 63, of La Grande died Nov. 4 of natural causes at a care center in La Grande. There will be a celebration of life service at the Union County Senior Center at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Friends are welcome and encouraged to attend. Burial will be at Asotin Cemetery in Asotin, Wash. Charles Lewis Blakeslee was born in Berlin, New York, in the year 1827. At the age of thirteen years he removed to the state of Michigan. In 1850 he was married to Caroline Dewey, and made his home in Battle Creek, Michigan. In 1863 Mr. Blakeslee moved to Union County, Oregon, with the pioneers of that year, and his family followed him in 1867. Mr. Blakeslee taught some of the first schools in the Grande Ronde Valley, in Summerville, Cove and Union, and in the old school house still stands in Union that was the scene of his early labors. … Read more
Caroline D. Blakeslee, age 90 years, 4 months and 22 days, died in La Grande Monday last, and the funeral took place from the Episcopal church, Union, Wednesday afternoon, the 30th inst. Mrs. Blakeslee was 90 years old, having been born in Lewiston, New York, September 6, 1827. She was married to Chas. L. Death of Another Pioneer The death of Mrs. Eli Blair occurred at her home in Island City, Sunday, March 25, 1906. Imbler, Union County, Oregon A terrible accident resulting in the death of L.M. Blackledge occurred at Imbler Friday of last week. The particulars as learned are that Blackledge drove into town from a nearby farm and stopped his team by the planing mill. The horses became frightened and started to run. Mrs. Mary Blackburn, aged fifty-five years, died last Monday night at a Baker hospital, following an operation for gallstones. Mrs. Blackman (sic) was the wife of Perry Blackburn, a well known rancher and stockman of Lower Powder. Petra Quam Bjerke, 89, died Nov. 11 in California with her family at her side. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no services. Petra was born on April 26, 1918, to John and Claudia Quam. She was raised in Hamar, N.D., along with nine brothers and sisters. In 1940, she married Alvin Bjerke. They moved to Clearbrook, Minn., where they farmed for many years until relocating to International Falls where they lived until 1995. They raised four children.
