Cove, Union County, Oregon Rees- Jan. 3, Sherman G. Rees, aged 77 years, beloved husband of Caddie [McDaniel] Rees, father of Dr. Sherman E. Rees, Portland; brother of Walter Rees, Medford, Or.; Harry, Beaverton, Or., and Tobe, Eastern Or.; grandfather of Thomas Rees. Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 5, at 1 P. On last Thursday morning Dr. C.H. Day received a telegram from Walla Walla announcing the death of Major Raymond R. Rees at that place. Deceased was an uncle of Mrs. Dr. Day and well known by many in this vicinity. Mr. Rees came to Walla Walla in 1861 and was one of the original owners of the Statesman published in that city. Life-Time Cove Resident Dies Cove (Special)- Mary Velina Rees, 71, died early this morning at her home in Cove after a long illness. Mrs. Rees was born in Cove, February 22,1872, and had been a resident of that city all of her life. On December 4, 1895, she was married to E. C. [Edward Canby] Rees. Thomas Jones, an early settler, was the father of Mrs. Rees. Survivors are her husband E. C. Rees, of Cove, Ore., passed away to her long rest, on Friday Morning, January 20th, 1899 at 2:20 a.m. Mrs. Rees, whose maiden name was Hall, was a native of Missouri having been born in that state February 10, 1841. A Fatal Wreck Engineer Joe Reedy Looses His Life in a Collision The Dalles, Dec. 25. – A wreck on the Oregon Railway and Navigation Company’s Road eight miles west of this place this morning in which Engineer Joe Reedy lost his life. Two freight trains were to meet the west bound passenger at Summit station. The side track being to short to accomodate the trains, a breakeman was sent east to flag the passenger train but he forgot to turn the switch to the main track. La Grande, Oregon Della Reeder, 77, of Pahrump, Nev., and formerly of La Grande died Sept. 17. A memorial service is planned in Pahrump Saturday. Mrs. Reeder was born to Bertha Gandy on Jan. 27, 1929, in Idaho. Her father died very early and she was raised by a stepfather, Wayne Gillis. Mrs. Reeder went to first grade in La Grande, but grew up in Summerville. Her family remembers that the man who would be her husband, Wayne Reader, proposed to her in third grade.
