William Bender, a 71-year-old bachelor farmer of the Menastash Canyon District, died in his bed sometime Wednesday night or Thursday morning. Eugene King, a hired man, told the sheriff’s deputies and assistant prosecuting attorney Philip A. Davidson that he was in the habit of sleeping with Mr. Bender and arose at the customary hour Thursday morning, watered and fed the stock and started breakfast. Mrs. Maria E. Bender, daughter of one of the earliest Kittitas Valley pioneer families, died Saturday morning March 30, 1968, at Bernaths Nursing Home at the age of 82 years. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James T. Hayes A Valley resident all of her life, she was married to Louis Bender June 22, 1907, at Ellensburg. He preceded her in death in 1946. Louis C. Bender, 68, Rt. 5, died Saturday [August 21, 1982] while on a fishing trip near White Salmon. He was born in Ellensburg on Dec. 22, 1913. He was a rural mail carrier for nine years and later, from 1936 to 1972, he owned and operated the Horse Shoe Tavern He and June Molotte were married in Pasco on Feb. 15, 1948. Funeral services were held this afternoon for George W. Bender, 41, who died Friday May 3, 1957 from injuries sustained when a falling tree struck him as he was bucking logs some distance away.
