Biographical Sketch of H. L. Peck

H. L. Peck was born in Lorain County, Ohio, in 1841; lived there until 1865, when he went to Sterling, Ill., where he remained eight years engaged in the milling business, which he had learned in Ohio. He then went to Maquoketa, Iowa, engaging in the milling business in that vicinity until the fall of 1881, when he moved to Nebraska. Biographical Sketch of H. F. Snider

H. F. Snider was born in Warrick County, Ind., July 18, 1843. He there married, in May, 1860, Miss Nancy Moses, who died a few years later. In 1862, he moved to Tama County, Iowa, where he married, June 22, 1866, Miss Harriet E. Watts, who died December 22, 1874, leaving four children–Lucinda S., John W., Henry F. and James C. Biographical Sketch of H. C. Lydick

H. C. Lydick, farmer, Section 2, P. O. Arizona, was born in Knox County, Ohio; came with his parents, to Jefferson County, Iowa, in 1845. There he remained till 1857, when he came to Arizona Precinct. He made claim of 160 acres, where his house now stands. Since then he has added from time to time, and now owns about 1,240 acres. Most of this land is under cultivation. He has seven tenants on his lands. Biographical Sketch of George Frank

George Frank, farmer, Section 13, P. O. Herman, was born in Bavaria in 1849; came to Milwaukee, Wis.; worked at the cooper trade there about seventeen years; in 1867, came to Nebraska, locating on this land. He owns 205 acres, which is improved, with a good house and barn and a large number of trees. He has about forty head of cattle and about seventy hogs. Two teams are used in working this farm. Married, in 1859, Caroline Bree, of Prussia. Have three children–one son and two daughters. He has two sons and one daughter by a former marriage.

George E. Brown, M. D., has resided at Albion, Boone County, since August, 1880, following his profession; has been engaged in the practice of medicine since 1876, three years of the time in York, Neb., one year at Butte City, Montana Territory, and two years in Albion; he is a graduate of Pulte Medical College of Cincinnati, Ohio, having taken a three-years course; he was born at Lockport, N. Biographical Sketch of George E. Atwater

George E. Atwater, of the firm of Atwater & Hoppock, general merchandise, is a native of La Porte County, Ind. In 1872, he came to Decatur, and the following year he established this business. His means then were limited to $25 only. He has worked into a large and prosperous business. Their sales now amount to about $25,000 a year. He is chairman of the village Board of Trustees, and Vice President of the Decatur Mining Company, organized in February 1881.

Biographical Sketch of George C. Latta

George C. Latta, farmer, Section 1, P. O. Tekamah, was born in Jackson County, Iowa, where he was raised; followed farming; in 1878, he settled on this farm. He owns 520 acres of land, which is improved with a substantial class of buildings. He is largely engaged in live stock. He is feeding about 175 head of cattle, and is carrying through about 300 head. His stock is mainly shipped to Chicago. Six teams are in use in working this farm.

Biographical Sketch of G. P. Brookings

G. P. Brookings, firm of Brookings & Harrington, lumber, is a native of Sagadahoc County, Me. There he followed lumbering. In 1867, he came to Silver Creek, Neb,; engaged in farming; in 1875, was elected County Treasurer, and at once removed to Tekamah, where he has since resided. In 1878, he commenced the lumber business. He owns about eight hundred acres of land, four hundred of which are under cultivation.

Biographical Sketch of G. C. Palmer

G. C. Palmer, County Judge, was born in Barry County, Mich., raised near Peoria, Ill.; April 1872, the family came to Oakdale. They opened a general store, which was the first store in Oakdale; continued this business until the fall of 1881, when he was elected County Judge. He was Postmaster from 1874 to 1879.

Biographical Sketch of G. A. Crannell

G. A. Crannell, farmer, Section 12, P. O. Tekamah, is a native of Saratoga County, N. Y. In 1857, came to Jackson County, Iowa. In 1861, he crossed the plains to California; there engaged in mining; in 1867, returned to Jackson County; soon after came to Nebraska; located on his present farm. He owns 420 acres of land, which are well improved; was elected County Commissioner in 1881.

Biographical Sketch of Fremont Everett

Fremont Everett, attorney at law and firm of Everett & Shumway lumber, was born in Allmakee County, Iowa; in 1868, came with his parents to Everett Precinct. In the spring of 1877, he commenced the study of law; was admitted to the bar, at Onawa, Iowa, in 1879; has since been engaged in this profession. Their lumber business was established January 1, 1880.

Biographical Sketch of Fred Renard

Fred Renard, proprietor of the Eagle Mills, was born in Cologne on the Rhine, Germany. In about 1850, he came to Dodge County, Wis., and engaged in farming. In 1860, he came to Washington County Neb., and also followed farming, where he owns about one section of land. In 1873, he came to Oakland and built this mill, which was the second mill built on Logan Creek. This mill he has since operated. It has three run of stones for wheat and one for corn. He also owns fifty-five acres of land with this mill.

Biographical Sketch of Franklin Everett

Franklin Everett, Postmaster, banker and live stock, is a native of Somerset County, Me.; in 1852, came to Dodge County, Wis.; in 1854, removed to Allamakee County, Iowa; in the spring of 1868, came to Nebraska; located in Everett Precinct. They were the third family in the precinct. He owns about fifteen hundred acres of land, and is largely engaged in livestock; is now feeding about one hundred and fifty head of cattle and thirty horses. F. W. Barns, of the firm of A. E. Wells & Co., bankers, is a native of Racine County, Wis. During 1878-79, he attended Williams College, Williamstown, Mass.; in 1880, came to Blair; a few months later came to Oakland, and at once became a member of this firm.

Biographical Sketch of F. P. Andrews

F. P. Andrews, farmer, Section 20, Township 18, Range 8 west, P. O. Moss Side, was born in Lycoming County, Penn., January 1, 1854. He lived there until twenty-two years old, when he came West. He stopped about two years in Ogle County, Ill., and Dubuque, Iowa, and, in 1878, he came to Nebraska, locating at his present residence. He has a good farm, consisting of 320 acres, of which seventy acres are in cultivation.

Biographical Sketch of F. M. Sacket

F. M. Sacket, dealer in grain, coal and live stock, Albion, has been dealing in grain the past six years, hauling 200,000 bushels per year. He has dealt in coal for the past two years, handling about 1,700 tons per year. He was born in Trumbull County, Ohio, in June 1848, living there until nine years old, when his parents moved to Wisconsin. F. L. Snyder, farmer, Section 23, P. O. Tekamah, is a native of Germany. When a child he came with his parents to Pennsylvania; there he assisted at farm work. In November, 1867, he came to Burt County, Neb.; owns now 440 acres of land, and feeds from fifty to eighty head of cattle a season. He was married in 1870, to Mary E. Taylor, of Pennsylvania. Biographical Sketch of F. J. Fried

F. J. Fried, of the firm of Cook & Fried, lumber and coal, is a native of Sweden; in 1874, came to Fremont, Neb., and engaged in the lumber business; in 1877, came to Omaha, and there edited a Swedish paper one year; came to Oakland in 1879; he with Mr. Cook then established this business. He was married in 1878, to Josephine Vickell, of Sweden; they have one daughter.

Biographical Sketch of F. H. LeDue

F. H. Le Due, hardware, stoves, tin ware, etc., was born in Charleston, S. C.; served in the late war about two years. In 1874, came to Columbus, Neb.; worked at the tinner’s trade till the fall of 1874, when he came to Oakdale, and opened a tin shop. He afterward added stoves and hardware. From a very small beginning, he has worked into a large and flourishing business. He is now carrying a stock of about $4,000. Has been School Director.

F. E. Lange, farmer, Section 30, P. O. Golden Spring, is a native of Saxony; came to America in 1852; was engaged in cabinet-making and car-building in many of the Eastern States. March 1855, he went to Kansas; thence to St. Joseph, Mo.; in May, 1855, he came to Burt County, and assisted in building the first houses in the county, and was one of six of the first settlers in the county.
