The subject of this sketch was born in Ripley, Brown County, Ohio, September 9, 1827. He remained at the place of his birth until thirteen years of age, when he accompanied his father, who-removed to Shelby County, Indiana. There lie finished his schooling, and, in the spring of 1851 came to Daviess County, where he has since made his home. He located in Liberty Township, within one and one-fourth miles of Gallatin, where he has a splendid farm of some 260 acres. Was born in Wayne county, Indiana, October 30, 1829. His parents, John and Elizabeth Platt Erwin, were natives of Delaware and of Scotch-English descent. They moved to Indiana in 1828. Young Erwin was brought up on a farm and received his education at the excellent schools in the neighborhood where he lived and received a good English education. William P. Dunnington. This gentleman is a native of Maryland, born July 21, 1816. At nine years of age he moved with his parents to Virginia, where he grew up and received a good common school education.
