1851 Sandwich Canada Directory

The County Town of the United Counties of Essex, Kent and Lambton. is situated on the Detroit River, in the Township of Sandwich, C. W. distant from Toronto, 232 miles from Chatham, 52 miles usual stage fare, 12s. 6d. from Amherstburg, 16 miles, and from Windsor, 2 miles.
