Julia Martha Mueller Koenig, 96, of Cove died Nov. 11 at a care home in Cove. A celebration of life service will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church with Pastor Wiseman officiating. A graveside service at the Cove Cemetery will follow the church service.

Mrs. Koenig was born Oct. 13, 1910, in Reedley, Calif., to Gottlob and Anna Strohmaier Mueller. She was a member of the First Mennonite Church. She was educated in Reedley and attended secretarial training school in Los Angeles.

In 1934 she accepted a secretarial and bookkeeping position at the Ascot Avenue Elementary School in the Watts area of Los Angeles. She was employed there for seven years.

She married John Koenig in Santa Monica, Calif., Dec. 7, 1940. The Koenigs lived in Los Angeles and Van Nuys until moving to a farm in Cove in 1962.

She enjoyed being a homemaker, gardening, traveling, music and reading. She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in La Grande, the Oregon Farm Bureau, Cove Women’s Improvement Club, Home Extension and the Knife and Fork Club.

Survivors include children and their spouses, Charles and Donna Koenig and Karen and Lyndon Rose, all of Cove, Carol and Dave Hanson of Los Alamos, N.M., and Linda Koenig of College Place, Wash.; sister, Miriam Von Seggern of Grass Valley, Calif.; and six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters and two brothers.
