Ashley County Arkansas Cemeteries

Most of these cemetery listings are complete indices at the time of transcription, however, in some cases we list the listing when it is only a partial listing.

  • The Agee Cemetery is a small fenced cemetery northwest of Crossett.  Though only a few graves are marked, it is obvious that there were other burials in the cemetery.
  • The Antioch Cemetery is located south of Hamburg adjacent to U. S. Highway 425. The cemetery is located by a small Methodist church which no longer has services. The listing includes over 400 tombstones.
  • The Arkadelphia Cemetery is located west of Crossett and north of U. S. Highway 82. There is no church at the cemetery, and no one named Arkadelphia buried there. The listing includes approximately 110 legible markers.
  • The Beech Creek Cemetery is located east of Hamburg off Arkansas Highway 8. The cemetery is located near a small Baptist church which no longer has services. The listing includes approximately 190 tombstones.
  • The Bell Cemetery is located southwest of Wilmot. Though named the Bell Cemetery, there are no Bell tombstones. The small cemetery is still active and neatly kept. This listing is of about 125 markers though there may be more unmarked graves.
  • There is also a second Bell Cemetery which is located near Crossett. Again, there are no Bell tombstones. The cemetery six legible markers, though there are also about a dozen other burials.
  • The Bethel Cemetery is located northeast of North Crossett. The cemetery appears to not be very active, but it is well maintained. A small church building is about to fall down by the entrance to the cemetery. The list here includes about 160 names as they appear on markers.
  • The Boyd-Hedge Cemetery is a very rural cemetery located southwest of Crossett. While the legible stones are all listed, there are many other graves which are marked by metal pipes or concrete blocks and for which there are no legible names.
  • A single tombstone in a grove of trees just north of the Arkansas-Louisiana state line marks the grave of Confederate veteran John H. Calloway.
  • The Carlock Cemetery is located west of Highway 133 and northeast of North Crossett. The cemetery remains active, The list here includes about 580 names as they appear on markers. There are many more burials which are no longer marked or marked by funeral home markers which are no longer legible.
  • The Carter Cemetery is located southwest of Hamburg. This is a family cemetery with most of the stones with Carter surnames. Other surnames with a substantial number of burials include Barnett, Byrd, Morgan, Sivils, and Ware. When checked, the cemetery had about 220 marked burials.
  • The Cason-Gertman Cemetery is located in the Berlin area south of Hamburg. This Negro cemetery contains 11 marked legible graves.
  • The Central Baptist Church Cemetery is near the Berea community, about ten miles northeast of Hamburg. This list not only includes a complete list of tombstones, but also has the complete text of the existing church records from 1883 to 1924 when the church dissolved. Due to the size of the files involved, the records have been broken down into several files. Follow the indicated links to each of the appropriate sections.   • The Cleveland Cemetery is located east of Hamburg on Arkansas Highway 8, and it is a community cemetery rather than affiliated with a church. Possibly there was a church at one time, but if so, it is no longer extant.. The listing includes about 175 tombstones.
  • The Courtney Cemetery is located north of Fountain Hill and west of U. S. Highway 425. While only a few stones remain, it appears that there have been a number of other burials in the cemetery which is fenced.
  • The Dailey/Murphy/Sweeney Cemetery is located west of Hamburg on Ashley Road 461. The cemetery, which is not located near a church, has about 50 marked burials.
  • The Dry Bayou/Millers Chapel Cemetery is located east of Wilmot and south of Arkansas Highway 52. The cemetery, which is not located near a church, is near the Miller Chapel community and has about 265 marked burials.
  • The Duckworth Cemetery is located west of Hamburg near Highway 133. The dozen markers include two for veterans of the War of 1812. The only families represented are Duckworths and Welborns.
  • The Egypt Cemetery is located at the Egypt Landmark Missionary Baptist Church west of Hamburg in the area generally known as Milo.
  • The grave of Ella Harris, who died on her twentieth birthday, is located in the woods southeast of Hamburg.
  • The Evergreen Cemetery is located in a wooded area southwest of Hamburg off Highway 160 (the old Hamburg-Crossett Highway). This cemetery contains many sunken graves and is generally in a state of non-maintenance. The list is of about 20 legible stones.
  • The Extra Cemetery is located adjacent to the Extra United Methodist Church on a rural road southeast of Hamburg. The cemetery has about 320 legible graves.
  • The Fine Point Cemetery is located in a wooded area south of Snyder south of U. S. Highway 82 between Hamburg and Montrose. The abandoned Negro cemetery includes only three marked burials.
  • The Geddie-Rawls Cemetery is located south of Crossett about a half-mile north of the Louisiana state line. Most of the stones are for members of the Rawls, Geddie, and Farrar families. The cemetery has about 80 marked graves.
  • A single stone on Ashley Road 60 north of U. S. Highway 82 at Snyder marks the burial site of Geo. D. Green, who died in 1866. This marker is located in the ditch on the east side of the road.
  • The name of the Gospel Temple Cemetery was updated in June, 2008. It was formerly listed as Wonner Grove/Reed Cemetery. This small cemetery is located on Ashley Road 34 southwest of Parkdale and northwest of Wilmot.
  • The Griswould Cemetery, which has 22 marked graves, as well as many more unmarked ones, is located in the woods off a gravel road near the Berea community.
  • The Hall-Thompson Cemetery is located along a fence line between two fields south of Wilmot. Almost all of the burials are from the two families. Eight stones remain legible, with at least one other no longer readable.
  • The Harris Cemetery is a Negro cemetery located southwest of Wilmot. While it is certain that there are many more burials, this listing is of about 75 markers which are legible.
  • The Hendrix-Mott Cemetery is located in the woods in the Cooter area northwest of Crossett. The listing includes six legible tombstones.
  • The Hickory Grove Cemetery is located just west of Arkansas Highway 133 south of Crossett. This cemetery has approximately 500 marked burials.
  • The Hogue Cemetery is located south of Arkansas Highway 8 east of Hamburg. This list includes about 45 tombstones.
  • The Judson Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery is located north of Hamburg and west of U. S. Highway 425. This listing includes about 330 tombstones.
  • The Kirkpatrick Cemetery is located within the John Boyd Park in Fountain Hill. Only four markers remain, all members of the Kirkpatrick family.
  • The Lick Prairie Cemetery is located southwest of Crossett on Ashley Road 3 near the Meridian Baptist Church, though there is apparently no direct link. This small cemetery contains about 125 legible tombstones.
  • The Macedonian Cemetery is located southwest of Crossett. The cemetery includes about 30 legible burials, arranged on three mounds in a wooded area.
  • The Morgan Cemetery is located almost directly south of Crossett.  Though only nine stones remain, there is evidence of other burials for which markers were not found.
  • The Mount Olive Baptist Church Cemetery, near the Berea community, includes a complete list of about 350 burials in that cemetery. The church is no longer active, but a homecoming is held there the fourth Sunday in April each year.
  • The Mount Pleasant Cemetery is south of Highway 82 between Mist and Snyder at the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. This church remains active. The listing includes about 375 tombstones.
  • The Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery is about ten miles south of Hamburg on the Berlin Road. (Ashley Road 26). The church remains active. The listing includes about 200 tombstones
  • The New Texas or Taylor Cemetery, which has over 50 marked graves, as well as many more unmarked ones is located south of U. S. Highway 425 and east of Hamburg.
  • The Nimmons Cemetery is located in a rural south of Hamburg adjacent to U. S. Highway 425. The listing includes about 25 tombstones.
  • The Noble or Springhill Cemetery is located west of Hamburg. This cemetery contains about 40 marked graves.
  • The Norris Hill Cemetery is located southeast of Fountain Hill. The cemetery appears to not be very active, but it is well maintained. The list here includes about 125 names as they appear on markers.
  • The Nutt Cemetery is located in the woods just behind the Beech Creek Cemetery south of Arkansas Highway 8 between Hamburg and Parkdale. While at one time there may have been many marked burials, only four markers remain.
  • The Old Union Cemetery is located about 2.2 miles north of Montrose, just west of Highway 165. A new survey of the cemetery lists about 225 tombstones.
  • The Parkdale Cemetery listing was provided to the Ashley County Ledger by Susanne Files Flowers. This is Parkdale’s municipal cemetery and includes over 600 markers. The file is divided into two parts to reduce loading time.
  • The Pleasant Grove Cemetery is located in a very rural area about four miles southeast of Hamburg. The listing includes over 30 marked burials.
  • The Poley Bridge/ Gee/ Wilhite Cemetery is located in a very rural area south of Arkansas Highway 8 between Hamburg and Parkdale, just inside the Overflow National Wildlife Refuge. The listing includes over 50 marked burials. The most common last names are Gee, McDuffie and Wilhite.
  • The Portland Cemetery is located on the banks of Bayou Bartholomew west of Portland, just south of Arkansas Highway 278 West, 1.2 miles west of the intersection of Highways 278 West and U. S. Highway 165.
  • The Powell Cemetery, which contains seven marked graves, is located in the woods off a gravel road south of the Berea community. Listing updated March, 2002. Note: In the early spring of 2003, the timber company which owns the land where this cemetery is located cut all the timber surrounding it. As a result, the woods road leading to the cemetery is no longer passible as of April, but the small grove of trees where the cemetery is located is still visible from the gravel road.
  • The Promise Land Cemetery is located at the Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church.
  • The Pugh Cemetery is located west of Arkansas Highway 133 between Fountain Hill and North Crossett. The listing includes over 200 burials with legible headstones as well as many more which are broken or no longer legible.
  • The Rawls Cemetery is primarily a family cemetery in the Rawls community.
  • The Robinson Cemetery is located in a wooded area south and east of Hamburg.
  • The Rogers Cemetery is located in a very rural area south of U. S. Highway 82 between Hamburg and Snyder. The listing includes over 25 marked burials.
  • The Sanders Lake or Holly Grove Cemetery is located west of Portland at the now defunct community of Holly Grove, which is adjacent to Sanders Lake. The cemetery has about 20 legible tombstones though there are other broken stones and funeral home markers which are not legible. Updated June, 2003.
  • The Simms Cemetery is located in North Crossett, just north of Arkansas Highway 52 and west of Arkansas Highway 133. This cemetery contains about 350 legible graves.
  • The Stevenson/White Cemetery is located in the woods near Beech Creek south of Arkansas Highway 8 between Hamburg and Parkdale. While it is certain that there are many more burials, only four markers remain.
  • The St. Peter’s Cemetery is located in a wooded area in the now defunct community of Thebes on Highway 82 between Hamburg and Montrose. Though only about 13 tombstones exist, the cemetery is certainly much larger with many unmarked burials.
  • The Trafalgar Cemetery is located in the Trafalgar community by the Sardis Baptist Church, north of U. S. Highway 82 from Snyder and east of Hamburg. This rural church still has services. The listing includes about 425 tombstones.
  • The Unity Cemetery is located on the south side of U. S. Highway 82 3.4 miles east of the intersection of Arkansas Highway 52 and U. S. 82 in Crossett or 4.3 miles west of the intersection of U. S. Highway 425 and U. S. 82 south of Hamburg.
  • The Waddell Cemetery is located just east of Highway 165 in Boydell, north of Montrose. This family cemetery is located atop an Indian mound with a large central stone marked Waddell. There are five markers, as well as a sixth marker duplicating two of the names on the other stones.
  • The Walker Cemetery is located west of Hamburg between Hamburg and Highway 133. The cemetery has only three markers still extant.
  • The burial place for Althia Walker and Josephine Thompson Walker is located west of U. S. Highway 425 just north of the Arkansas-Louisiana state line and north of Ashley Road 2 on a timber access road called Fisher Trail. There are two marked burials, but it appears that there is at least one more grave.
  • The Wilmot Cemetery is located southwest of downtown Wilmot on the banks of Lake Enterprise.
  • The Gospel Temple Cemetery aka Wonner Grove or Reed Cemetery is located southwest of Parkdale and northwest of Wilmot on Ashley County Road 34. There is no church at the location, which appears to have both black and white burials. The cemetery has about 45 legible tombstones.
  • The Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery is located southwest of Fountain Hill and northwest of Hamburg near Milo. The cemetery has over 450 legible tombstones.
