Mrs. Dora Minnie Gross, 58, wife of John H. Gross, widely known resident of the county, died Wednesday evening at 7:10 o’clock at the family home, three and a half miles south of this city on the Hoosier highway, following a three months’ illness with complication of diseases. Mrs. Gross had been in a critical condition for the past three months. It is believed by members of the family that complications of pneumonia developed during the past week and that this ailment aided by heart and kidney trouble, caused her demise.
Dora Minnie Bowman-Gross was born December 6, 1867, the only child of John A. and Nancy [Morris] Bowman on the farm south of the city now known as the Gross farm and where death occurred. She had been a resident of this county her entire lifetime and had come to be known and loved by a host of friends. Mrs. Gross was a devout member of the local United Brethren Church of this city, having affiliated herself with that church when but a young lady. She had been an ardent and tireless worker in the church up until the time of her recent illness.
In 1885 the deceased was united in marriage to John H. Gross and to that union eight children were born, four of whom survive as follows: Ira B. Gross, residing south of the city; Earl Gross of Bluffton; Mrs. Hazel Parker of Johnstown, Colo., and Miss Dorothy Gross, residing at home. Six grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted from the home, south of the city, Saturday afternoon, at 2 o’clock, in charge, the Rev. Roy Turley, pastor of the local United Brethren Church. Burial will be made in the IOOF Cemetery here.
