Brown, Walter ‘Junior’ – Obituary

Walter “Junior” Brown, 78, of Sigourney, died Mon., May 12, 2003, at his home. He was born June 1, 1924, in rural Kirkville, the son of Walter and Maggie Brown. He was raised and educated in the Kirkville area.

He was united in marriage to Rosemary Failyer on Nov. 8, 1941, in Lancaster, Mo. He farmed his entire life in the Fremont, Ottumwa and Sigourney area. In later years he worked at Keoco Auction in Sigourney.

He was a member of the Eagles. He enjoyed square dancing, western movies, showing mules at the Keokuk County Fair, the Keokuk County Expo, the Iowa State Fair and in parades, trail riding and auto racing.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Frances Teeter of Ottumwa; two sons, James of Fremont and Michael of Sigourney; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Mildred Venator of New Sharon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Howard and Robert; and one grandson, Aaron Brown.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thurs., May 15 at the Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont with the Rev. Frances Baumert of the What Cheer Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Township Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. on Wed., May 14 with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Pallbearers will be Nick Bruce, Todd and Josh Caves, Stacy Ruby and Martin Stull. Honorary pallbearers will be Staci Ruby, Brandon Brown, Tracy Jones, Trisha Brown, C.D. Huffman and Rick Huffman. A memorial has been established in his name.
