Ormsby, William Oliver – Obituary

William O. Ormsby, 89, died at 6:15 o’clock Friday evening [August 16, 1946] a his home, 4 ½ miles west of Colfax in the White Church neighborhood. He had been seriously ill for the past two months.

Mr. Ormsby, prominent retired farmer, was born December 23, 1858, at Ashland, Kentucky. He was married in Crawfordsville, August 14, 1884, to Violet M. Coyner. His wife preceded him in death on April 20, 1911.

Mr. Ormsby was the second oldest man living in Sugar Creek township, where he had been so prominent over a long period of years. He served four years as assessor of Sugar Creek Township. Mr. Ormsby was a member of the Baptist Church as a young man.

A son and two daughters survive, together with six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. The son, Francis Ormsby and one daughter, Mrs. Grace Gilmore reside at home. The other daughter, Mrs. Florence Stuckey, lives at Spartanburg, Ind.

A brother, Henry Ormsby, resides at Sand Spring, Okla. A half brother, Elmer Sigmund, who resides at San Diego, California, visited Mr. Ormsby just two weeks ago. Mr. Ormsby also had a half sister, Mrs. Ola Coffman, of Lafayette.

The parents and one son, William C. Ormsby who died August 8, 1912, and a granddaughter, who died August 23, 1944, preceded Mr. Ormsby in death. Another grandson, Charles Gilmore, was killed in action in Germany April 13, 1944.

Rev. A. L. Miller, of Darlington and Rev. George Hagdenbuck, of Bowers, will be in charge of the funeral services Monday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the White Church. The body will be at the home until an hour before the funeral. Burial will be made in the Bowers Cemetery.
