Nona LaVon Burlew, 81, a Baker City resident, died Nov. 22, 2002, at St. Elizabeth Health Services.
Her funeral was today at First Lutheran Church. Pastor Dennis Hickman of First Lutheran Church officiated.
Nona was born to John William Christy and Pearl Lillian Colson Christy on June 27, 1921. She was the oldest of five children.
Nona was a homemaker, loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was exceptionally caring and giving. She loved her family and friends very much. She was proud of her Pioneer Valley heritage, as her great-grandfather was one of the first settlers of the Baker Valley in 1862. She loved the outdoors, huckleberry picking, and sewing. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband, John Burlew; her daughters, Patrina Burlew of Baker City and Marie Jones of Emmett, Idaho; granddaughter, Christy Smith and her husband, Brian, of Nampa, Idaho; children, Kassondra, Matthew, Colton and Darren Smith; brothers, Donald Christy and his wife, Betty, of Baker City and Gerald Christy, and his wife, Joanne, of Meridian, Idaho; sister, Teresa McCabe of Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Nona was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Wallace Christy.
