Carper, Garry James – Obituary

Enterprise, Oregon

Enterprise native, Garry James Carper, died of cancer at home in Enterprise, Aug. 11, 1988. He was 31.

He was born June 25, 1957 in Enterprise, the son of Alfred E. and Esther D. Carper. On Sept. 22, 1984 he married Christina M. Holt in Hermiston. He was a respiratory therapist by profession.

Carper graduated from Enterprise High School in 1975 where he was active in sports. He worked at Wallowa Memorial Hospital as an EMT.

In 1977 he moved to Hermiston to work at Good Shepherd Hospital as a respiratory therapist where he later became head of the department. In January 1988 he returned to Wallowa Memorial Hospital as respiratory therapist department supervisor.

He is survived by his wife Christi; children, Craig Allen Carper and Amanda Lee Carper; mother, Esther Carper, Enterprise; brothers, Ron Carper, Hermiston, and Larry Twidwell, Horse Creek, Calif.; sister, Melodee Bailey, Hillsboro; grandmothers, Mina Johnson, Enterprise and Promise Gershick, Salkum, Wash.

Funeral services were held on Alder Slope, near Enterprise, Aug. 16, with Maynard Norvell and Jim Pace officiating. Pallbearers were Doug Mitchell, Ron Carper, Butch Miller, Larry Ables, Carey Lewis, Jeff Cranford, Phil Weideman and Luke Nye.

Internment was in the Enterprise cemetery. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Wallowa Memorial Hospital or cancer research.
