Mrs. Sargeant Dies At Daughters Home
Mrs. E.F. Sargeant, former resident of the county, died Jan. 10, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. H. Houck, Kenova Park, Cal., where she had lived in recent years. Burial was at Sheridan, Ore., after funeral services held at McMinnville. She had enjoyed good health until her brief last illness.
Christia Anna Zumwalt was born in Polk, County December 30, 1851, and was married to Mr. Sargeant in the Willamette valley. They came to Wallowa County in 1903 and homesteaded at The Buttes, where they lived some 14 years, and then moved back to western Oregon. Mr. Sargeant passed away May 9, 1921.
Surviving are these children: Mrs. Clara Yocom of McMinnville, Mrs. Lora E. Allen of Los Angeles, Mrs. Mabel Hough of Enterprise, Delmer Sargeant of Pomeroy, Wash., and Mrs. Irene Houck of California, and there are 24 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
A sister lives at Ashland and two brothers live in western Oregon. Mrs. Sargeant was a member of the United Presbyterian church. She was her two years ago for a visit with Mrs. Hough.
