Long, Glenn – Obituary

Glenn Long, 81, a former long time Haines resident died July 11, 1996 at Amber Valley Care Center in Pendleton.

A graveside funeral was held for Mr. Long at Onley Cemetery in Pendleton on July 14.

He was born October 20, 1914 to William and Amy Owen Long, long-time residents of Haines. His pioneer grandparents, Julia and Alonzo Long were early day residents of Muddy Creek.

Mr. Long attended country schools in Haines and Baker City. He married Iola Johnson in Winnemucca, NV., in 1935. He later married Dorthy Burarsky in 1945. She died in 1947. On July 4, 1968 he married Marylis Chard.

Mr. Long worked as a rancher in Baker County, and later entered the dry cleaning business in Baker City, Burns and Pendleton. He enjoyed people, horses, rodeos, fishing, hunting, and western movies. He broke and trained several horses.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Pearl thrasher, Daisy Elliott, Opal Blank, and Ruth Brown; brothers, Ernest “Red” Long, Garnet Long, Frank Long, and Lewis Long.

Survivors include his wife Marylis; stepdaughters, gail Burkenbine of Heppner, Joanne Rose of Elgin; stepsons Raymond Burarsky of Portland, Nolan Chard of Milwaukie, Terry Chard of Hermiston, and Charles Chard of McMinnville; brother Harry Long of Baker City; sister Doris Colton of Baker City; numerous step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
